Post match report, Carrara 11s V Burleigh Red 11s, Final score – 21 to 27, the win going to Burleigh Red.
Coach Garth’s Match Report…
An exciting night on our home ground under lights...Great contest against a quality Bombers team, in difficult conditions - how about that fog!! I am very proud of all our kids for fighting until the final siren- unlucky not to win, but more great experience for all of our little champions. Everyone is getting better week by week.
Great spread of contributors- special mention to Jay, whose marking was outstanding throughout the game and my BOG, Noah’s attack on the footy, Pursey and Pykey were solid all night, Arch toughest on ground with some magnificent bumps. More improvements from Damian and Dusty. Jake Callinan particularly in the 3rd Qtr was fantastic.Luke defended well. Hazza was brave after a big hit to the head. James from the under 10’s played a tough style of footy as well.
Well done and see everyone Tuesday to keep improving our teamwork,,skills and fitness.
Coach Dean’s Match Report..
If anyone saw the whole game last night they have better eyes than anyone. It was a wet , cold and foggy night and I’d say the first time most of our boys played in those kinds of conditions.
A combination of the conditions and a well matched team, made for a really tough match, however, our boys fought really hard and played well and were just getting over run in the back half of the game. Jay, Purss and Jake worked hard while Archie was very physical with his head over the ball all night. Thanks to Bill and James for helping out and I hope the boys who got bumps to the head are ok today.
What a game Sainters!! It could have gone either way, it was so close and exciting, a tough and evenly matched game (what I could see through the fog of DOOM!! love that Bec Carter lol). Burleigh Red’s coach told our boys that our team have been their toughest competition this year.
Congratulations to Harry for receiving the MVP award for the week, such a tough little player, good job buddy!
Thanks to the amazing volunteers this week, being Sue Hewitt, making her debut as Ground Marshall! Adam Bude, running the boundary like a superstar, Donna Kennedy for providing oranges for the team and being our first aid assistant, thanks for always volunteering Donna! Adam Purss, taking control of hydration and his side kick Evie Clarke, awesome work guys. Adam Dale cheers for being our goal umpie. Timekeeper extraordinaire, Sally Clarke for owning that siren. And last but not least, young Mitch Kennedy and his side kick, Cooper Blood for upkeep of the scoreboard, thanks boys you rocked it! Thanks everyone who has volunteered to help out our team each week, the coaches, myself and the club, really appreciate it, there wouldn't be a game being played if these positions were not filled.
Also, good on you Cohen for coming and supporting your team, Cohen had an injury and was unable to play, but he still came down and supported his mates.
With 2 really narrow losses to the 1st and 4th Coolangatta (17points) and Robina (4 points) (respectively) the boys really wanted to make up for some less Than favourable results and take a win into the bye round.
With the opportunity we injected some new names to the senior squad, and some returning from early season management, Jackson Goodchild returns from an injury sustained in round 2 and looked right at home, as well did hard nosed ball hunter Shaun Sauer and swing man Joseph Lopez
Ex Surfers and Labrador winger Bronson Durack was extremely serviceable in his return game to football, as was the return from good form in the reserves Darby Pearce,
With 3 minutes left in the game and a 4 goal lead in very wet conditions the game was put on hold for 30 minutes and eventually called off due to serious injury to Saints defender Tom Kennett who was among the best players on the day,
For those at the game and those that have messaged this page with concerns and well wishes, Tom is in good spirits and has a very big appreciation for the messages and contact from the whole Carrara family and the wider AFL community.
As we have come to learn in a short time having Tom at our club, he will bounce back and take this in his stride. We are all behind you here at the saints Tom.
With a couple of late outs on the morning of the game some late call ups were made.
Confident with the senior side on the park the game started as you would expect in those wet conditions, scrappy.
Coolangatta taking advantage of their opportunities around goal.
"leading contested possessions and clearances we felt like we were never to far away" Pearson said "ultimately though bad kicking is bad football"
Kicking 1 goal 9 behinds before registering a second major, the boys had to put in to claw it back.
"Cooly really hurt us with scoreboard pressure early" we had 3 more inside 50s to half time but we just couldn't capitalise.
"We won the second half and lost the 1st quarter by 8 points from memory, so that 2nd term is what really hurt us, we re assessed at half time and changed some things that weren't quiet working and to get back within 8 points with less then a few minutes to go it's a credit to the boys".
Coolangatta rated by most as a top 3 team gives us a good indication on what areas we need work on, we can go away fine tune a few things and prepare for another massive challange taking on last years grand finalist Beenleigh at their home deck.
We look forward to the challenge at hand and are excited to play who most are tipping to finish top 2.
The Saints are a top 4 side if they all stay on the park, a cracking game to watch even though the wet conditions nullified the skills of both sides, when Barney went forward he was damaging for the Saints. Coolangatta enjoyed hosting Carrara both games were played in great spirit and the Blues wish the lads all the best against the Buffalos. Big weekend for Cooly 5 games on Colts, Ressies, Seniors QWAFL and Div 1 Womens. The biggest day in the history of the club..
If we show them early they will not rate us top 4 teams early on the year give us the advantage we need to run home stick at it boys we all believe in you young club with great culture proud of where you have come from as a true person who believes and supports
With our first offical hit out in QFA division 2 our reserves went down to a determined opposition, reserves coaches Nathan and Jay took a lot of positives from the game and look forward to working with a very new look squad.
Our seniors won there first hit out by a convincing 78 points - with some key players unavailable for selection we had 3 club stalwarts make their senior debut and we welcomed 7 others as first time saints players. Mitchell Fryer and Alex Burnett made a very good first impression as well as Corey Oliver all featuring in the best players.
premiership Full back Joey Lopez took on a role change and took his spot at full forward in the absence of our key forwards and secured himself 7 goals, over all the club are very happy with its first hit out against last years elimination finalist.
This week we look forward to heading up the road to take on Coolangatta who we have no doubt will be out to continue on there winning ways after defeating Robina yesterday.
We look forward to seeing you all there to get behind the teams and bring home 2 wins. ... See MoreSee Less
